To build the asymmetric memory environment for our DELL servers

$

I try to build the asymmetric memory environment for our DELL servers (e.g., Dell-R720 with 2-socket, 4-channel/socket)

Actually, I want to control differnet I/O frequency and access latency for each DRAM channel

In this case, my questions is below.

1. Is it possible to control different frequency and access latency for each DRAM channel?

2. can I control DRAM timing parameter from the CSR registers?

I have found the CSR registers and changed it for asymmetric memory access (e.g., T_RP, T_CL),
but I'm not sure if it work well.

3. Also, I wonder how to control CSR register values with RW_LB attribute.

In this case, Do you have any suggestions?

Hello,

Did talk to Dell support, and they mentioned that this server is not supported officially, for plugging in GPUs. Anybody tried this and had success ? If so, let me know what GPU card can be fitted onto the Dell R-320 chassis . Am a novice wrt, hardware details, so this question.

Thanks

Hi All,

I have an older PowerEdge T310. The fans in it are spinning up for no apparently reason. We checked to make sure there was no dust on the inside and it seems to be pretty clean.

Intakes were recently cleaned out as well.

Here is the log from OpenManage:

Poweredge R610 96GB memory

Can I use 12 8GB dual rank chips in an R610 to get 96GB of total ram?  I read the manual but it states that there is a limit of 8 ranks per channel.  So if a channel is 6 slots, then 6X2 = 12 which is greater than 8. Which leads me to believe I would have to use 6 16GB dual rank chips.  Is this correct or can i use 12 8GB dual rank chips?

PowerEdge R730xd: How to configure fixed CPU frequency?

$

We are running some performance tests on our R730xds, but see CPU frequency jump up and down even though we're running in "Performance" mode.

The OS is Ubuntu 14.04 with a 4.4 kernel. It seems to switch from "performance" to "powersave" mode :-(

Currently, it is running the "intel_pstate" (/sys/devices/system/cpu/intel_pstate) scaling driver
(/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_driver).  But because
the OS thinks HWP is not supported, it's running in a less efficient
"legacy" mode designed for Sandy Bridge and earlier
(/sys/kernel/debug/pstate_snb).

How can we make the system run at a fixed CPU frequency? CPUs are Intel Xeon E5-2640 v3.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I have a couple of r200 rack servers that I am trying to setup as a plex and ftp server for my family. I also have a Norco server attached storage box that I want to connect to them. I have never played with this kind of setup and need some advice as the best way to connect them. Also one of the servers is caught it a perpetual reboot cycle, as soon as I turn it on it spins up and then shuts down and starts all over again, any thoughts?

We've got an R320 running Windows 2012 R2 which whenever it restarts (including authomatically) it powers off rather than rebooting and needs switching back on.

We've updated all drivers and firmware, checked the BIOS and lifecycle settings and it's still doing it.  We have two other R320 which work fine.  I'm at a bit of a loss what on earth could be causing it

VRTX - Change Storage Assignment Type

Hi

I wanted to ask a question, on my VRTX if I select to change the assignment type. (single to multiple), I losted the virtual array, is it normal ?

I switched the attribution type, and the array came back, thus I lost nothing, but the customer bought another blade to add a ESX, thus the need to share the storage is now there.

I wanted to know how to make the share to be able to keep the array. I tried while the VM was on, I guess my problem came from there, but I want to be sure.

Thanks

nb, I add a picture to show the option I mean, sorry for the French language in it.

There another picture that show the disk that recome online after I reselect the single assignment.

Urgent: The system board BP1 5V PG voltage is outside of range.

Hi,

We have an urgent problem. One of our servers suddenly powered off and now cannot be turned on. It's an r620 and we noticed now that it was out of warranty. We have tried to do the flea drain method by pulling the power cords and holding the power button for 30 secs but even after that the server cannot be powered on. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Is BP1 refering to the backplane?

These are the error messages:

The system board fail-safe voltage is outside of range.

The system board BP1 5V PG voltage is outside of range.

Kind regards

Dell VRTX M520 performance issues

$

We have 3 Windows server 2012 R2 Core servers in a Hyper-V cluster.  The problem we are facing is a slow degradation in ping response to hosts and guests within this cluster over time.  A reboot of the hosts fixes the issue but cannot be the solution obviously, as it is in production.  These hosts sit in a DELL VRTX chassis and we have made sure the DELL firmware and Microsoft Windows Updates and hotfixes have all been applied.

We have checked NIC Teaming, disabled/uninstalled AV, made sure no backups are running at the time of bad response times from PING. Response times should be 1ms or less and we are getting 43ms+ interspersed by 1ms fro example. We are not getting request time out anymore but still latency which effects the guests running apps on the hosts.

Dell hardware has been checked and the switch on this chassis has also been replaced.

Anyone experienced anything like this?

Poweredge R910 BIOS is really old.

Hi,

I had a rather significant failure on my R910 this week.  It is running ESXi 5.0 and many of my VMs crashed, and the remaninig VMs entered "read-only" mode with their storage.  This means that they could not contact the storage array within the R910.  My server has:

4.5 TB usable storage (ten 600Gb hard drives) - SAS drives Raid 5 with one (1) hot spare

  • Ten (10) 600GB 10K RPM Serial-Attach SCSI 6Gbps 2.5in Hotplug Hard Drives
  • Sixteen (16) 2.5-Inch hard drive available slots; Ten of these slots currently in use (ten 600Gb hard drives)
  • RAID 5 for PERC H700 Controller (Non-Mixed Drives)

This machine has been in service since 2011, and has suffered a motherboard failure (1 year ago), and now this.  I am thinking of opening a ticket regarding this current problem, but quite frankly there is no evidence in any log files that anything happened.  The iDRAC logs contain no entries on the subject, and neither does the ESXi server.  Looking at the iDRAC during this event would have me believe that nothing at all was wrong.  I suspect that DELL Support will want me to update my BIOS and as many firmwares as I can find in this box, but I don't know where to start.  Please help.
