Cannot Change vSwitch0 MTU to 1522 in ESXi 5.5 - Dell R300

Hello Dell Community

I have a Dell R300 with ESXi 5.5, and their  vSwitch0 in 802.1q trunk with a C2960 switch. I tried to change the vSwitch0 MTU from 1500  to 1522, however, the ESXi gave the following error:

Fault Details:

Status:An error occurred during host configuration.
Error Stack:

Operation failed, diagnostics report: Unable to set MTU to 1522 the following uplinks refused the MTU setting: vmnic1
Additional Fault Details:
 VC Build: 1312298
Error Type: PlatformConfigFault
Entity: HostNetworkSystem
Method: UpdateVirtualSwitch

I updated the driver acording to vmware guidelines, however the issue persists. Here is the updated esxi driver version:

~ # ethtool -i vmnic0

driver: tg3
version: 3.137l.v55.1
firmware-version: 5722-v3.11, ASFIPMI v6.03
bus-info: 0000:01:00.0

Could be necessary to update also the NIC firmware ??

Regards.

Poweredge R900 no video signal

Hi,

I got two used Poweredge R900 servers.

One works fine, the other one turns on, fans blow, no error message on the smalll display, but I wasn't able to see anything on the screen.

If I take out the disk drive, I get a E1812 error on the display, and when I put it back the error disappears.

Since they were delivered by UPS, something could be loose.

Any idea what? I tried to push everything into its place.

Thanks in advance!

Foreign Configuration Found

This is regarding a T7400 Desktop with a PERC H310 controller. The setup of this system was done when I purchased the machine I have not changed it. Recently the unit rebooted and came up with a message about a "Foreign Configuration". I have been trying to figure out exactly what this means and what to do about it. I believe that the machine was set up with a virtual drive and there was some kind of RAID set up with the physical drive and the virtual drive. I don't know for sure what level RAID, 0 or 1. I hoping to recover data on the hard drive but I need help with what steps to take. I have included pictures of the different screens I currently see with regard to the boot up and controller setup. I'm looking for advice. Thanks for any help.

Hi. I seem to have scrapped 2x PE R720s by "upgrading" idrac7  from 1.35.35 to 2.30.30. Unfortunately both R720s are no longer under waranty. any fix? idrac7 communication error now. blank lcd screen....etc. I've tried the power drain already.

Hello team, we have R710 with single cpu with populated 9 dims with 8gb memory.

We now have 6 x 16 gb memory in order to upgrade memory, what is best procedure to intermix memory to populate 3 more slots with 8 gb memory?

Is this even doable?

Hello Everyone,

I have a PowerEdge T320 that keeps showing "The power input for power supply 1 is lost" and "Power supply redundancy is lost" in OpenManage Server Administrator. I tried to update the firmware but that didn't resolve the issue.

Any assistance would be great. Thank you

Good day,

I am in a bit of pickle . I recently downloaded BIOS and Updated Power Edge M630 and realized that I did not follow the recommended order of updates. The M1000e should have been updated 1st. Now the CMC is non responsive.

Any Ideas where I should start troubleshooting this. Can remove the BIOS update?

Server is running bare metal XenServer 6.5 and I've been away from server's too long heck I used to work on this stuff. I see F169G 0F169G DELL 5709 GIGABIT DUAL PORT PCI-E NETWORK CARD that's Broadcom but what is the machine going to recognize? Any help is appreciated.

Been trying all afternoon to download the new SUU (16.04), but every time it either ends early with an incorrect file size or barely gets started before failing.  I am also trying the lifecycle controller updates and it's not going anywhere either.  Is something bad happening at Dell?

What do I need to set up RAID in my PowerEdge C6100

Hi, I am new in rack server, so I must say I have no idea at all on how to configure it. We have recently bought a Dell C6100 XS23-TY3. The unit is second hand, we have installed Linux OpenSUSE on the third nodes, and the rest is Windows Server 2008 r2, we are planning to replace all of them with Linux OpenSUSE. My question is, is it possible to backup my whole operating system to the other nodes? So that, in case that the node that we are currently using got damage/corrupted or we cannot use for what so ever reason, we can easily change the connection to the other nodes where we have our OS baked up.

T410 won't power up

i was adding a hard drive to my Dell Server T410.  During the BIOS changes, i accidentally changed from ATA to RAID.  When the server restarted, i was prompted if i was alerted of this change and that if i accepted (y) i would lose all my data.  I aborted the operation, and was notified that it would attempt to reload the last configuration.  The server has not powered on since.  Now i check a blinking amber light and i'm unable to boot up the server.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Dell R820 Memory upgrade

Hello, I would like to ask if it is possible to add 16gb 1866MT/s memory to an R820.
On Dell site it clearly states that the server accepts up to 1866MT/s yet on every single paper that i have read it states up to 1600MT/s.

The target is at 512GB. And i was thinking of buying 16GB 2r4 PC3-14900R dimms. would it work or do they have to be low voltage. Maybe 32GB sticks?

Well the server has 4X E5 4650 v2 cpu and a newer motherboard. So the question that remains is can you load 32 rdimm 1.5v or do they need to be 1.35v?

Dell Power edge 2850 will not let me install windows server 2003

Hello,

I have been trying to install windows server 2003 on  a few servers I received a few weeks back.  The system has RAID set up and it is enabled but when it attempts to install WS it says there are no hard drives.

I was trying to download "Updating Dell Power Edge servers via bootable media / ISO" but there are no downloads for a 2850.

Also I tried to download this "Dell Systems Build and Update Utility"  but most of the time it stops and says download failed...

Dell OEM Intel X520-DA2 NICs not being recognized in PE R430 server?

$

I have two Dell OEM'd Intel X520-DA2 SFP+ adapters that have been pulled from a working PowerEdge server, but don't appear to have the Dell firmware properly loaded in their EEPROM.  The sticker on the back of the adapters says that they are DP/N 0F3VKG  so they are definitely the Dell OEM compatible versions of these adapters.

When I use the PowerEdge R430 linux ISO to attempt to update the firmware on the cards, the utility recognizes the adapters, but claims that the installed firmware version is version 0.0.0.   It then attempts to flash the EEPROM, but doesn't appear to succeed, as the next time I run the latest Dell bootable ISO firmware update utility, it still sees the firmware as version 0.0.0 even though it wants to update the firmware to version 17.0.2.

These adapters are going into a system that is going to be an ESXi 6.0 server, so I can't use the Windows driver/firmware update utilities to update the adapters.   Is there any alternative that I can try using to force the firmware update onto these cards?

R900 no video on replacement motherboard

I have an R900 that had a motherboard fail from a bad surge. Received a replacement motherboard but there is no video output from the front or rear DSUB-15. I have a DRAC5 installed, and there is no video/console output there either. Unit powers on, all fans spin up, front display is blue with no errors. I suspect a DOA board. Could both PSU's be bad also? When powered on both PSU's have 2 green lights. I have powered the board on with a single CPU and single memory riser (and alternated between CPUs and risers) still no video output. If video is disable in BIOS, would that stop the DRAC5 from displaying console output?

Also, the model board I have and the replacement is the X947H, I see alot of RV9C7 boards as well, i suspect the are interchangeable but what is the difference?

Thanks,
