Total Power Requirement Calculation

$

I have provided a client with a proposal that includes 80 PowerEdge R430 Production Servers with 64GB RDIMM and 400 X2 GB SSD + PowerEdge Management Servers with 32GB RDIMM and 300 X 2 GB SSA, housed in 3 Dell Netshelter cabinets.

These are used for IPTV with 24/7/365 continuous service. How do I compute the total power requirement for the above system?

Thanks!

keyboard failure

Hello,

I have a PE2950 which boots with the following:

Testing memory. Please wait.

Keyboard failure

I'm not able to use the keyboard and change the BIOS setting at all or configure raid volumes without keyboard. What does this mean? USB hub is broken on the board or I have to reset the MB or something??? BIOS is 2.7.0, I just upgraded via PXE boot with automatic flash script.

It is not the keyboard that works well with the other PE2950s.

Any help appreciated!

Thanks

PowerEdge R330 with PERC H730 Controller (latest FW) - "BLOCKED" HDD's - ?!

$

Hi

We got an new R330 server with an PERC H730 controller and it seems it blocks my (Hitachi & Seagate)  600 GB SAS Hard disks.  Status: "BLOCKED"

The system and the PERC controller is updated to the latest firmware.

I understood that there was in the past years some issue with "blocked" non-dell certified HDD's but DELL decided to unlock them again with an updated firmware.

The controller reads out and display the basic information of the HDD's so there is communication.
Is the "blocking" again in place in 2017 or is there some other problem with my disks?

How to solve this?

thanks & best regards
Michel

Dell power edge R 210 no bootea desde CD

Buenas tardes.

Muchas gracias.

Saludos.

BIOS logo/status bar missing from initial startup

Folks,

Recently purchased 2 R710's from eBay and thought all was going well until I powered up the 2nd server. The first thing I noticed right away was the Dell logo and status bar upon BIOS boot were missing. It does however recognize it's an R710 and using 6.4.0. I've tried reflashing the BIOS with 6.4 and even older versions but no fix yet. I came across something about OEM BIOS but could'nt really piece together a plan to get it back to a Dell factory flash.

Any ideas?

Hello Dell community,

I need a part replacement for a PowerEdge R720.

I do not know the name of this part, but it goes at the front of the server (right side). See image attached.

Do you guys know the name? Where can I buy the replacement? Also, what is the socket of the screwdriver, I need to remove it?

CPU upgrade in Dell PowerEdge R430

Hi

I am planning to add new CPU to Dell PowerEdge R430 Server. Currently server working as single socket server and with the upgrade need to be dual socket server.

1.) I am going to order CPU with exact similar server model with currently existing module.  Are there anything should I order apart from that?

2. ) Is it only to follow the steps given in owner's manual? Do I need to do any BIOS upgrade ?

3.) Will these processor modules HT enabled by default?

Thanks

Intel NIC firmware updates that work with 2K16 please!!

We have Secure Boot enabled in our environment as a standard, but we also have some PowerEdge M630s with Intel X520 Mezz cards installed whose firmware is old enough not to have a signed boot ROM, which means that every single time those servers reboot, they halt on a Secure Boot warning about the NIC's untrusted firmware. The fix is of course to update the firmware, but even the latest updates available on support.dell.com for the X520 and X710, both released in the last 1-2 weeks, do not run on Windows Server 2016 -- even though they're listed in the Drivers and Downloads page after I select Server 2016 as my OS.  The updates instead immediately fail with an "Inventory Collection Failed" error, and when I extract the update contained in the Dell package to run the underlying file directly and dig through the logs it generates, the root error mentions an unrecognized OS.  In our particular environment it isn't feasible to temporarily move these NICs into servers running an older OS in order to complete the update, nor will these firmware updates run from WinPE or even directly on the Lifecycle Controller.  Disabling Secure Boot also isn't a viable option, especially with no ETA on when the underlying problem will be resolved.

I'm not sure if this is a Dell issue or an Intel issue, but Windows Server 2016 has been out for a year now, and in fact Microsoft just announced the NEXT release called Windows Server 2016 Version 1709, which will be coming out this month or next, so there is absolutely no excuse for major OEMs like Dell and/or Intel to not fully support 2016 by now.

PowerEdge M620 - QLogic BCM57810 broken after firmware update

Hi

I tried to update my PE M620 blade using official DELL iso image from dell.app.box.com/.../32719678641. After update I reboot blade according guide from iso. Blade hasn't powered up normally after reboot (stuck in bootloop). On CMC I saw messages about bus error. After virtual and physical reseat of server, it powered up normally, but i don't see QLogic BCM57810 devices in BIOS configure menu and ethernet devices in DELL LiveCD. I think that firmware of Ethernet adapters was broken during update. How i can repair firmware of these adapters? lspci tool is showing me NICs when I load Dell Live CD image, but bnx2x kernel module can't be loaded, because firmware is broken.

R910 - on boot fans gradually increase to maximum - very slow performance

$

I purchased a used R910 (no warranty) with the intent of building a VMWare host to work on some credential programs.

It has the X16 backplane.  I got it with one CPU, no HDD, and 32GB RAM.  It would go through the POST process, and I was able to enter the H700 RAID BIOS without issue, but at the end of POST any other course of action (like System Setup (F2) or System Services (F10))  would fail immediately after  POST with a CPU error.

I purchased 2 SLC3Q E7-4830 CPU's & U884K Heatsinks, and installed them with some Arctic thermal compound.

Now when it boots, it POSTs without errors... however.  The fans start out on the lowest speed, and immediately following the Dell Logo screen at the beginning of the POST gradually increase one step at a time until they are at max RPM (6,000+).  I can get into BIOS setup and configure things without issue.  I can get into System Services, but everything is very very laggy, and attempts at firmware updates fail.

I am quite familiar with some of the smaller Dell servers (1850's through R430s), but this beast is a new animal to me.

Hope it is not a bad motherboard, but can anyone recommend some steps to determine the issue?

Please let me know if more information would help!

Thanks!

R620 CPU Temps

I have an R620 with 2x E5-2670 and the temps are 70c and 60c at idle with CPU utilization at 1%. Running Windows Server 2016 Essentials. Everything looks good in the enterprise iDrac7. No warnings or messages. All the fans work and are pushing 4000+/- rpms each. The heat syncs are correct with new thermal paste. I just bought the two CPUs from esiso. I find it hard to beleive that they would sell me damanged CPUs. Any ideas guys?
