I get this error "user disabled by cmc" when ever I put on my server I have tried the

To enable the front panel using the CMC Web interface, go to iKVM > Setup tab, select the Front Panel USB/Video Enabled option, and click Apply to save the setting.

but it didnt work, so i resorted to use Remote Desktop to access the server when ever it comes on but now, I am nt able to access the Server via Remote Desktop because it dosen't come up anymore. On the Idrac web interface, I see the "The system board battery has failed" error. Is there anyway i can rectify this?

SD card slot on R530/430? How can I use it?

Howdy,

I noticed there is an SD card slot on the back of our latest servers.  It has a wrench on it so I'm not sure if it's a normal card slot or not.

I tried putting a card in there but nothing shows up in Windows.  I saw some things about having to enable it in System Settings but I didn't see any settings when I looked around.

Can anyone let me know what this card slot is for?  We want to put a Windows Image on it so if we ever have to rebuild a server we don't have to go find a CD or plug in a USB drive.  I don't know if we can use it for that or not.

I think our x20 models also had a slot but it was in the front.  Do those work the same way?

Any guidance would be great.

Thanks.

Last chance for Dell server - cannot get enough support

Hi,

A new customer of mine has a 3 yr old Dell server that the hard drive failed on (no raid at all, ugh).  I ordered in a replacement drive but cannot get the OS to load on it.  I have posted a few times here but never get enough info from ideas here to get past the problem.  The support had run out on the server so I have no good options except this forum.

Here is my message thread and right at the bottom you can see I am stuck again.  Have put hours into this and am ready to tell the client to just buy a new server -  which is a shame as it is just a backup server that is not that old.

In short, it always seems to fail either on not having the drivers or perhaps something to do with the partitions (sorry, but I do not understand the "PBR" error noted below).

Finally, it would be nice if someone from support stuck with this thread until I indicate it is resolved.

Thanks.

>>>>> first post (removed intro) >>>>>>

- boot to F10, Unified Server Configurator

- then Deployment, OS Deployment

- it prompts to select driver source and I figured out that I needed to download a CD called "DELL EMC LIFECYCLE CONTROLLER OS DRIVER PACKS DVD VERSION 17.07.00" and put this on a USB

- I picked "use CD/DVD/USB" and it found the stick and then put in "Repository" as the drivers are within that folder

- it prompted for the OS choice and I chose Win Server 2008 SP2

- it failed with an error "unable to copy driver files"

B) I then rebooted with the the Dell Windows Server 2012 Foundation" disk that I had (I did not use this at first as a previous post reply suggested that this 3 yr old server did not have the drivers for 2012)

- it came up to "deploy OS" and then it said it would reboot the system and finally it said to click to finish the installation" (there might have been other prompts along the way)

- this time it failed with "Loading PBR for descriptor 1...done" and then right after "Bad PBR signature"

Thank you. You can update the Lifecycle Controller via the F10 at startup, then Platform Update , from there you can run the Platform update and then point to that file.

Chris

>>>>>>>>>> (my last response ) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Hi Chris,

When I boot into F10, there is  unfortunately no "Platform Update" option - only OS deployment, Hardware diagnostics, USC settings and about.  The UEFI ver is 2.1; the USC ver is 1.5.5.18.

The download file for updating the Life cycle Controller Legacy is an exe file that needs to be run from Windows - but I cannot boot to windows.

So it seems I am stuck as cannot update the Lifecycle Controller and without that, it seems I cannot install the OS?  Next ideas?

PowerEdge R710 Dual/multi boot options?

I'm new to Dells. I have an R710 with VMware ESXi 6.5 (a bare-metal hypervisor) currently booting from a drive in drive slot 0 [defined as virtual disk 0 in the PERC console]. This works fine for the VMware VMs I need to run.

I now have an additional need to run several Hyper-V VMs under Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter - if possible I'd like to define another virtual disk [virtual disk 1] in the PERC6 mgmt console and selectively boot from it as well. Is this possible?

If the above is not, are there any other workable options? I guess I could swap different disk caddies into slot 0, but that seems clunky.

Thanks for any thoughts on this - Tom

T320 H710 - Windows Server Issues

Hi,

I'm currently trying to set up my T320 with a H710 card.

I have 8 disks currently configured and being detected by the controller, with Windows Server 2016 already installed (along with the other disks having data on them), I have set up 7x Virtual Disks in RAID0 and another SSD as a cachedisk, however it won't boot into Windows (No boot device available) - I have set the SSD with Windows on to be the boot device within the H710 and set the H710 to be a boot device with priorty #1 under Hard Drives C:

I can plug the drives into the onboard SATA controller and they work fine, but not when being pushed through the H710.

Please help!

Thanks

PowerEdge r320 - SWC 0700 Error

$

Hi all,

I am currently struggling to find a solution for the 'SWC0700: iDRAC is not ready' error. The error started occurring when we had to take off the server from a battery backup, due to the backup making an odd buzzing noise. Upon rebooting the server, the iDRAC no longer responds. The 'i' button on the back of the server is now blinking amber. The BIOS gets stuck temporarily when trying to initialize IDRAC (and eventually returns an alert), after it has initialized the memory. Once it gets past that state, and to the point where we would normally be able to CTRL+E into the iDRAC settings, we get the error code above. The iDRAC settings, as well as the Lifecycle Controller are inaccessible.

We never used the remote functionality of the iDRAC. The only issue we have now, since it has stopped working, is the ridiculously loud fans that are no longer controlled.

I have tried two solutions in an attempt to get it to work again. The first being pressing the 'i' buttons on the front and back for the specified amount of time to reset the iDRAC. The other being powering off the server, removing the PSU cord, and draining the flea power. Neither have worked.

I am not sure where to progress now. I am trying to avoid replacing the motherboard. I have looked through these forums for the same issue. Some of the posts just end up with people having to replace the motherboard, being able to restart the iDRAC with no other issues, or just never replying. I figured it'd be worth it to post anyways.

RAM upgrade in Dell R710

Hello,

I recently acquired a used Dell R710 from a small business in town. I found that the server only had one processor (Xeon 5530) and 12G DDR3 RAM (6 x 2GB 2Rx8 PC3-8500E-7-10-e0). I was looking into upgrading the RAM on that machine.

Going through EBay, I found people selling DDR3 but the trailing numbers after clock speeds (i.e., latency) is different.

This is what I am getting on EBay: 4GB 4Rx8 PC3-8500R-7-10-H0.

Please help me decide if I can upgrade the system from "2GB 2Rx8 PC3-8500E-7-10-e0" memory to "4GB 4Rx8 PC3-8500R-7-10-H0" memory.

My main purpose for this build will be high performance computing like building neural nets and AI. At the same time I am also looking to buy another Xeon 5300 to go in the 2nd socket that is empty.

Please help me decide if I can replace the RAM and suggest the maximum amount of RAM I can place in the system(my research says 288GB).
Help Appreciated
Many thanks.

Good afternoon! My name is Vlad, and I had a question about updating HDD to SSD of the Dell brand server at work.  We want to put two (RAID 1) samsung 850 pro Therefore, I have a couple of questions:

Is it advisable to put SSD it in this server?

- How do I do this without reinstalling the server? Maybe "cloning" disk ?

Hi everyone,

Recently I've upgraded my R720 server with Intel Xeon E5-2670.

After the upgrade the processors temperatures are higher than before.

Before the upgrade the temperature was around 62º and now is around 78º.

For this processor, E5-2670, this temperature is normal?

Anyone could help me?

The release notes for iDRAC6 Firmware release 2.90 mention that TLS1.0 can be disabled via the CLI using the racadm command 'tlsencryptionstrength'.

Is there another version of racadm somewhere that provides this command as it is not available with the OpenManage 8.5 toolset released in March this year?

Cannot use Virtual Console on R610

No matter what I do I am not able to get the virtual console running on my R610. I have two R710's and a R610 ii and I can use the virtual console on them just fine.

I have tried re-updating iDRAC firmware, restarting iDRAC, changing console settings, compared settings between R710s and R610. Added IP's to Javas exception list, etc. I even tried the tool from github using Java 1.7.0_80. That works just fine on my R710's and R210 but it still does not work on the R610.

When I launch the remote console from iDRAC GUI Webpage, I open downloaded file and it goes through all the normal java warnings. Then it says: Connecting to remote console server, and almost immediately I get connection failed.

Using the tool from github I get:

Enter Password:
09/12/2017 07:56:57:654: Starting client.
====setPowerMenuStatus: (##2)*

And then it crashes back to command prompt.

On the working consoles I get:

Enter Password:
09/12/2017 07:58:31:701: Starting client.
====setPowerMenuStatus: (##2)

ProtocolAPCP: Version [1.0]

NativeKeyboard.init() Native library loading [jawt]
NativeKeyboard.init() Native library loading [avctKVMIO]
NativeKeyboard.init() Native library loading complete.

and it continues on.

Kind of at a loss on this now.

PowerEdge Freezes in Diagnostics

PowerEdge R430
Service Tag: <Service tag removed>

Hi,

We have a Dell PowerEdge Server. Upon testing it running the diagnostics, it stops working (freezes) when it comes to the OD (DVD,CD-ROM Drive).

1.) Firstly, it detects TWO OD's instead of the single one that is installed.

2.) Secondly, as soon as it starts the OD test, it freezes

3.) If we remove the OD drive, it works and completes diagnostics successfully

4.) We replaced the OD drive and the cable but the issue persists

5.) We tried to obtain a new mainboard for the server, but the part we received was a recon unit and had pins bent on the CPU socket.

6.) Occasionally the system will throw out a large garbage error messages on a "dos" looking screen. White text, black background.

a.) Any idea why this is happening ?

b.) How can this be sorted ? MB ? CPU ?

c.) The server works fine otherwise but we don't want to run into any issues down the line so this freezing issue is a problem. For now, we are trying to get an entire new server.

NAS4Free setup on R710 newbie questions on RAM and other

$

Good morning everyone.

I am looking to set up home server using NAS4Free for mostly file sharing (photos, music, video, documents). Not looking to do anything too fancy. I have windows, apple, and Ubuntu machines at home.

Had a question on RAM. I currently have 12Gb of UDimm. I also have 32Gb of RDimm lying around. I know they can not be mixed and matched. Is there any advantage of using one setup over the other?

The R710 I have for this is a single quad processor machine. Here are the specs:

One Xeon X5677, 3.46Ghz, 12M Cache, 1333Mhz
Dual 570W power supplies
12GB (6x2Gb), 1333Mhz UDIMMs (I believe I have 32GB of RDIMM)
All firmware has been updated.
No RAID controller (hoping to do software RAID)

Loaded up the OS on the internal USB drive and seems to be working fine. In the process of configuring the software RAID but need to do more reading.

Thank you.

Dell Poweredge R720 Power Supplies

We added three new drives to our server and were going to add them to the Raid volumn but received an error saying there was insufficient power.  Dell technical support sold us 750w power supplies to replace our 495w units.   When they arrived over a month later we installed them but the warning did NOT go away.  Viewing from the idrac I can see that the server still thinks that it has the 495w power supplies and I need to know where to go from here.
