T310 amber light - how to read the LED codes

$

Our Poweredge T310 (without the LCD screen) is running Windows Server 2008 and has a solid amber light on panel.  I viewed the 4 lights as I rebooted but they all went on in various combinations throughout the booting process.    How do I tell which one is the error code?

I don't have a lot of experience in working with servers.  Any help is appreciated.

Dell PowerEdge 2900: E171F PCIE Fatal Err, B0 D5 F0, E1422 CPU Machine Chk, Graphics Lag

Hello,

I recently bought a Dell PowerEdge 2900 server. I have 4 x 2TB HDDs in a RAID 5 configuration, two X5460 Xeon processors installed, and 32GB of RAM installed in my server as well. The server is running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS x64. The problem I am having is sometimes right before the login screen appears, the server restarts itself. The front LED panel will then turn amber orange and gives me an error: E171F PCIE Fatal Err, B0 D5 F0, E1422 CPU Machine Chk. Additionally, if the server does boot up, I notice there is a substantial lag. For example, if I click the launcher to search for something, the launcher may take about 5 seconds to appear and to be functional. I am currently running the Dell diagnostic software, and so far everything seems to be functioning. However, I have tried searching these errors and problems on Google without any luck, and I was hoping someone could give me advice on how to troubleshoot/fix these issues.

PowerEdge M600 / FCoE adapter

Trying to find the drive for Windows 2012 R2 for this adapter:  Intel 10GbE/FCoE Dual KR X-520 (or part # MY-08F6NV-12402).  Cannot find it with Dell or Intel.

Is this adapter supported by the M600?

All the drives I had found, have the error 'Intel Adapter not present' - the chassis console detects the card.

Poweredge R320 PSU FAILED Firmware Update Bricked

I'm quite annoyed with the fact that.

1. Our warranty for the Poweredge R320 had expired. Tried to extend warranty but no reply from DELL. Wanted to extend the warranty before trying to address the PSU failed fan trip issue by flashing the required firmware.

2. After religiously following the firmware process, in the end we are left with a BRICKED PSU and no spare PSU rendering our clients BACKUP server unusable! We simply ran the firmware update where it went through the notion and we left it for over an hour. After coming back to the server we are left with an orange flashing PSU.

The power supply is only able to powerup the iLo/idrac and nothing else. WHen you try to upload the firmware for the PSU it says that its not compatible. I tried it via ssh and initate an update with the force switch but it says there is no compatible device.

What to do now?

Upon googling, I am not the only person that has had this predicament!

TOTALLY RIDICULOUS. DELL ARMING USERS with BUGGY not 100% fool or bug proof FIRMWARE RELEASE!!!!!!

We have other dell servers deployed and this is a first major issue we've hit. I may have to get the arms of the ACCC to get this matter addressed as DELL support solution/help is for me to PURCHASE a new PSU!!!

Really!!!! Your firmware method isn't perfect and I am pretty sure it can easily be replicated to FAIL!!!

Please provide some kind of SOLUTION to get this server back up on line. It is only less than two years OLD (purchased from DFO with only 1 year warranty).

O/S Not booting after windows update?

I believe Windows Update has caused this issue...after a typical update and restart the O/S won't boot. See below screenshot...I don't believe it's cause of the BMC, I just think that's the last thing to be checked before the O/S boots.

I tried putting the disc in and doing a repair, no auto-fixes seemed to work. I tried chkdsk c: /scan and that ran but didn't find anything. Any next steps I should be thinking? Not sure if this is a Dell BIOS issue or windows issue at this point?

PE R710 Memory Issue

Hello,

I am trying to add 16GB (2x8) of memory to a PowerEdge R710; however, I cannot get the system to work with the modules I have. The machine is currently configured with 8GB DIMMs in A1 and B1 (w/ two CPUs) and if I understand the guides correctly, I should be able to add the two new 8GB sticks in A2/B2.

If I try that configuration, I get a MEMBIST error that indicates A2/B2 have been disabled. I have also tried putting both of the old modules in A1 and A2 with the new modules in B1 and B2, in this case the server will not POST. I have also tried removing the old modules completely and putting the new modules in A1/B1 - this also results in no POST. I have tried other configurations as well, such as moving the new modules to A3/B3 in which case the BIOS tells me the configuration is not optimal, suggesting I move the DIMMs to A2/B2 but also gives the MEMBIST error and disables them. In any case, I do not see any MEMTEST failure messages like I've seen in some other posts on the subject.

I have updated the firmware to BIOS 6.4.0 along with all the latest iDRAC / USC / etc. firmware but that did not seem to change anything.

The new modules I am attempting to install are Hynix HMT31GR7BFR4C-G7. The CPUs are Xeon 5520s. Unless I'm missing something with the configuration, I suppose my question is; are these parts not compatible with the R710 or do I have faulty DIMMs?

Thanks for any help!

VGA Driver for T110 II running Windows Server 2012 R2

Hi .. just wondering if anyone is running Windows Server 2012  R2 on Dell T110 II server?

I just completed installation and updated all the OS patches but noticed the graphic is distorted so when I checked under the server properties, display adapter is using "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" driver.

Tried installing the driver from Dell's site for this server and installation always fail.

Poweredge T620 cannot find boot drive.....

Hi folks,  I have this server that was shut down abruptly and now when it is powered up it does the “ preparing automatic repair....”  loading files” routine.  when it gets past that annoyance, it asks to select keyboard layout, and after that none of the troubleshooting options provide a way to boot. The only option that does work is Shut Down. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get this to boot? Thanks very much.

Poweredge 2850 Error EB107 PROC INIT ERROR

Greetings All,

Have a 2850 that's been restarting on its own the past 3 days, nothing in the dump files.  Today the machine pops an error on the amber LCD screen  - EB107 PROC INIT ERROR.  It's a dual CPU unit with twin Xeon 3.0GHz procs  and boots up, but I can't find anything on this error.  Is it the proc or the MB?  Or could it be something else?

Thanks in advance

R710 Stuck at: Testing Memory Please wait.

$

When the server turns on, it sits at "Testing Memory Please wait".  I've taken out all of the ram and tried different sticks (thinking one may be bad).  The other sticks that I've tested are 1GB sticks. The server itself has two CPUs.  This server has been working for >6 months and I wanted to apply  windows updates to it for this month.

Troubleshooting wise, this is what I've done:

  1. Scaled down to 1 ram stick.
  2. Tested different sticks
  3. Removed all HDDs except for HDD0

I was looking around the idrac6 and I noticed that under Power Supples  that the Input Wattage is at 702 with a Max Wattage of 570 (FW version is 00.01.31 btw)..  so do I need to get another 570 power supply for my 2nd slot or should I get a single power supply... Not sure what would cause the power to spike like this.

Under Power Monitoring:

  • Amperage: 1A@124v
  • Reading: 133w | 454 BTU/hr

I've tried everything I can think of to get this to work... what else can I do?

R710 - W1628 after increasing RAM from 48GB to 72GB ?

$

So I have an R710 with twin quad 2.8 proc, four 1TB SATA drives and twin "eco" PSU both powered. According to a KillaWat, a single PSU is pulling about 150w, when both are online, each is pulling about half that at 75W.

The RAM config was 12x4GB total of 48GB. I bought 6x4GB additional to populate the empty slots aiming to go 18x4GB = 72 total.

However, after installing the RAM, the server locks into a reboot cycle claiming a W1628 error that there isn't enough watts. Nothing else changed. I can't fathom 48GB drawing another 850W (assuming the power supplies operate accumulate as 2x500W) or another 350W if the "max" is only one PSU. Should I really be needing the 870W PSU when I haven't added anything heavier like more drives ?

According to DRAC, the PSU firmware is 08.04.00 and everything else appears to check out.

Any suggestions ?

Dell R610 Collecting System Inventory

I have 2x Dell R610 servers. One proceeds quickly through POST while the other drops into "Collecting System Inventory" for about 10 mins before booting.

Is there a way to disable the "collecting system inventory" on every boot?

Additional DVI Card not the default for R730 server

$

I recently bought a Dell R730 server. I needed a DVI output so Dell recommended "Dell Part number A3515673" VisionTek Radeon HD 4350. Installed the card and was able to boot using the integrated VGA port as normal. New card contains a DMS-59 port, which has two pigtails for DVI. Plugged up a second monitor to one of the DVI connections. Dual screens works.

BUT when I shutdown my system and try to boot up just using the DVI connection it isn't recognized. How do I make this the default video card? I know it's something simple like a BIOS setting or something I'm overlooking but I can't seem to locate it.

Thanks.

Hi all,

We have a blade system with Dell M1000e chassis, M620 blades.

They were installed Citrix XenServer 6.2 SP1.

Today, I tried to run Dell DSET tool on these server (dell-dset-lx32-3.7.0.219.bin) (Note: ...lx64... is not compatible), but I got error:

"Failed to install 'dell-dset-common' rpm"

Details is in attached image.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks,

Long Chu

R820 drawing 65kW!!

So I have started seeing SEL entries for system board Consumption current is greater than the upper critical threshold and in looking at the power monitoring page in DRAC I see Max Peaks are listing at:

65422 W | 223285 BTU/hr

Uhhhhh what? :)

So before this started I upgraded all firmware EXCEPT the PSU which is at 07.09.47 so is this the new DRAC/LC, BIOS firmware not playing nice with the old PSU firmware and reporting wacky info?

I really don't want to upgrade the PSU firmware. I have bricked PSUs before following Dell procedure so it's way down near the bottom on my happy list :(

Has anybody else seen this?

R815 no POST after switching UEFI-BIOS boot mode

$

While attempting to troubleshoot an upgrade of AMD CPU's in an R815 server running Windows 2012 Server, I set the boot mode from UEFI to BIOS mode. (In retrospect, it looks like this is a neophyte mistake!) The machine will no longer POST, and immediately shuts down. I found the following in one of the Dell manuals:

"Troubleshooting System Startup Failure

If your system halts during startup prior to video output or LCD messaging, especially after installing an operating system or reconfiguring your system's hardware, check for the following conditions:

• If you boot the system to the BIOS boot mode after installing an operating system from the UEFI Boot Manager, the system will hang. The reverse is also true. You must boot to the same boot mode in which you installed the operating system. See Using the System Setup Program and UEFI Boot Manager."

and...

"Choosing the System Boot Mode

The System Setup program also enables you to specify the boot mode for installing your operating system:

• BIOS boot mode (the default) is the standard BIOS-level boot interface.

• UEFI boot mode is an enhanced 64-bit boot interface based on Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) specifications that overlays the system BIOS. See Entering the UEFI Boot Manager for more information on this interface.

You must select the boot mode in the Boot Mode field of the "Boot Settings Screen" of the System Setup program. After specifying the boot mode, proceed to install your operating system in that mode. Thereafter, boot the system to the same boot mode (BIOS or UEFI) to access the installed operating system. Trying to boot the operating system from another boot mode causes the system to halt immediately at startup."

However - I haven't found any information about rescuing the situation, so that I can get back to any kind of booting process. (Have tried resetting NVRAM, and booting from USB with DOS-formatted stick with BIOS replacement - without success).

Any pointers would be gratefully accepted!

Poweredge T420 - GPU Install

$

Hello all,

I am trying to understand how gpu installation work.

Let me say that I have already managed to install a gpu card on my own server but I used a tricky way to give it the required power supply.

In fact from the system owner's manual seems to be a piece of cake like just plug your GPU to the CN11 connector but is not. I don't have any CN11 connector on my motherboard and this belong to the power interposer board that is available only in a redundant configuration.

There is any way to find out if the CN11 is only present in a redundant power solution or if I have to change the whole system in order to have this connector ?

This is also a good question for any future GPU card addition (SLI scenario).

Thanks everybody.

M.
