Dell PowerEdge 800 Hardware Issues?

I have a Dell Power Edge 800 Server that is just randomly locking up on me frequently. It is running Windows SBS 2003 but the event logs don't show much other than unexpected system shutdown from the hard reset done when the system locks up. I'm getting a flashing amber light which usually means there is a hardware problem but the A B C D E indicator lights on the front panel are all glowing green. Are there any other indicator lights that I should check? Is there some kind of log that records Dell Hardware Events? If so, how can access them to see what the problem is. What would you suggest that I look at or do next?

T110 No display

Hello, I have a poweredge t110 and the display won't work. I had this computer for about a year and it worked perfectly two days before it broke. I took the graphics card out, which is an xfx r5 230. I plugged it into the builtin vga port and turn it on and nothing happened. A month ago I had a problem with graphics cards, it seems that the faster the card you have, the slower the computer is. I took the cmos battery out then put it back in and nothing happened. I also noticed that the 1 light is constant on the front of the computer. I'm wondering if there is something with the bios? I don't know, help!

Dell YT674 NIC Drivers needed for 2012 R2

I am decommissioning several 1950 servers; each of them have 2 of these NICs. I'm spinning up a new R320 with Server 2012R2 and thought I'd throw one of these NICs in it, but I'm finding it impossible to get drivers for the NIC.

Anybody have a link to drivers that will work in 2012R2?

Breaking through the 2TB barrier on a poweredge T300

I have an older Poweredge T300 running windows 2012 r2. The scsi adapter is very finicky. Some drives aren't even recognized at all. I installed a 5TB drive and the OS only reads 2TB i cant for the life of me figure out how to extend past the 2TB size of the drive. Help would be appreciated

SBUU and SSU - firmware not applied

I am having an issue applying firmware to a Dell 2950.   I boot up the SBUU ISO and select the option to install the updates from USB. 

I insert the USB drive and the system returns a screen with the comparison report.

I select the firmware and Apply.  The screen refreshes and I get the status.

It shows 5% and after about 10 minutes I get a REBOOT button at the bottom.

I reboot back into SBUU to check if the firmware updated but it the new firmware from the repository is not applied.

any ideas?

T110-II SATA controller card

I seem to be having a heck of time finding a SATA controller card for my T110-II.  I need it to be supported in VMWare ESXi 5.5 and 6.0.  I would prefer an 8x card, but 4x would be fine, since I am starting out with two 4 TB drives.  I am not going to use RAID.  I need this controller to support internal drives of 4TB.  At a minimum, I would like 2 SATA port but 4 would be nice.  I am fine if they are SAS ports that I can use a SAS to SATA cable with.

Does anybody have any recommendations that are not horribly cost prohibitive?

Poweredge 1950 drac5 web interface not working

Hi,

Problem is same as descripted in here:

"Drac module doesn't respond to http or https requests"

I scanned servers IP with nmap and only ports 22 and 5900 are open.

So it is answering to ssh and telnet but not hosting web service.

Tried everything that was suggested in this thread.

  • soft reset (racadm racreset)
  • hard reset (racadm racresetcfg)
  • clearing RAC logs (racadm clrraclog)
  • clearing SEL (racadm clrsel)
  • updating firmware (RACADM FWUPDATE -g -p -a IP_ADDRESS)

So is there command to start web service or something else i should try before giving up and buying external kvm?

T110 no RAM

Hi. I have Power Edge T110. Now installed 2 GB RAM (1GB+1GB). I boughtnew RAM 4GB+4GB, installed into socket and server not working - i just see Dell logo an it resets and again and again continuously. Help me please!!!

T20 PSU fault?

Hi,

I've a new PowerEdge T20, but on the fourth or so boot during setup there was a loud 'pop' from the PSU area and now nothing works.  The fuse in the power supply cable plug was gone so I've swapped to another known good cable (tested before and after) and still no joy - no green light on the back of the PSU and no other signs of life.  I have tried pressing the little button on the PSU next to the light (perhaps a reset button?) but no results from this either.  Do I have to wait until Monday and call Dell for a replacement or is there anything I can do over the weekend?

PE 2900 video upgrade

hi all , i have a pe2900 with a drac 5 , all firmware/drivers updated and have been reading all the threads deeding updating the system, well it was all so easy in fact buy following most of the advice (disabling the drac etc ) it crashed the system ...

anyways the rig

2x 3.16 gig  quad xeon e5460 12mb ea

48gb ddr2 ecc 800

PERC 6/I Integrated/ Adapter 512 and bbu ( borrowed from  6/e)

PERC 6/e external 512 and bbu (i'm soon to upgrade with a powervault md1000)

2x sas 1tb stripe for os

6x sas 2tb raid 5

1x 2tb sata on on-board controller for dead backups and log files

1x sata blueray burner

10gig fiber hba

1gig fiber hba

2x on-board nics teamed with 10gig  and 1gig

DRAC 5 with all current firmware etc  on out of band magement

NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 2gig ddr3    <-- linlk to card

and a pci sound card

it was all plug and play . literally DON'T DISABLE THE DRAC!!!!  the snd i did the system stopped booting

I'm running server 2012  and have 4x hd ptz and  2x sdt def ptz camera's on it 24x7 record motion tracking and ptz etc    main raid is just media for all the house 3x tv's,  2x xbox one ,3x blue rays, 5x computers (more when i host lans) , 4x tablets , 5x mobiles  of all makes and models

the on-board video limitations are silly ... it routing from back to front of case on cable plug in ...  and lets fase it a 16meg card is not even gui happy  now-days (camera feeds aero etc etc) i also wanted the ability to put the camera system through hdmi > hdmi 4x splitter  (3 to close tv's  and one to a TCP/IP multicast transceiver for the other computers and smart tv's etc) and work on the local server with the rack kvm screen .   i also needed space for customer backups when i work on there computers .

tip plug the video card into the pcie 8x  slot and any other raid cards etc in the next slots  along

it was all plug and play  windows handles it all , load nvidia drivers and off you go  onboard works along side nvdia and plays nice :) , GL all , hope it is as easy for you as it was for me .

Help BMC isn't working!!!

Hi, i'm new to the fourm so sorry if i post in the wrong section.

The server I have is a poweredge 2970. So today i was updating the BMC firmware to to 2.50. How ever the server rebooted and now, of course bmc doesn't work, and the front lcd is a mix of blue and red. is there a way i could fix this by reflashing bmc? And if so how can i do that because i have no clue. Thank's and if you need more info i will post right away.

Dell T620 + Nvidia K5200 graphics card ...

Hi All,

I just wonder that do i need to use extra power cable to support Nvidia K5200 graphics card in Dell T620 server. If yes, could you give me any product number or web side for the cable? I know there is a GPU kit to install K20 to the server but i am not sure for K5200. Also, i did not see any T620 configuration along with Nvidia K5200 in the net but i think that it is possible. Any suggestion might help at this point.

Any way to get Directed I/O (aka vt-d / SRIOV) on PE2950?

I'm running ESXi on a PE2950 with dual Xeon 5150s and when I try to work with DirectPath I/O it tells me that 'host does not support passthrough configuration.'

Is this a limit on the PE2950 itself due to its own chipset?  Or is it a CPU limitation?

I suppose my question really boils down to: has anyone gotten this feature to work on a 2950?  And, if so: what CPUs do you have?

Hi, Appear to have a communications problem with our PowerEdge 860 - it has stopped showing some values from monitors on the Logix DeviceNet. I have run a diagnostics test, which shows "Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet located on PCI Bus 5 is disabled". Nothing has been changed on the server, so assume a fault has developed. Would appreciate any advice for further investigation / repair.

Powseredge T310 server

I have 2 servers & when I came into work today both were in the log on screen (press control+alt+delete)

I logged them both on.  Since then they have both gone back to this situation twice.  I have not noticed any electrical problems.  My software company checked through the logs and did not see anything unusual.  Any suggestions?.
