Hello Steve

The battery may actually be working with both firmware revisions. If the battery falls below a certain absolute state of charge it will report failed. The older firmware may not have been reporting this failed state. Pull a controller log using OpenManage Server Administrator. Look for a section like this:

T3: *** BATTERY CAPACITY INFORMATION ***
T3: _____________________________________________

T3: Relative State of Charge : 99 %
T3: Absolute State of Charge : 64 %
T3: Remaining Capacity : 1093 mAh
T3: Full Charge Capacity : 1102 mAh
T3: Time to Empty : 65535 Min
T3: Average Time to Empty : 65535 Min
T3: Average Time to Full : 65535 Min
T3: Cycle Count : 11
T3: Max Error : 0 %
T3: _____________________________________________

T3: *** BATTERY MONITORED INFORMATION ***
T3: ____________________________________________________________________________

T3: Temperature : 17 C Voltage : 4061 V
T3: Current : 0 mA GasGaugeStat : 40e0
T3: GPID : e8ffbf99 ChargerStatus : 3
T3: Remaining Capacity : 1093 mAh Full Charge Capacity: 1102 mAh
T3: Relative Stat of Charge : 99 % FwBBUState : 1
T3: ____________________________________________________________________________

Also, do a search for the word "Failed" to see if there is a battery error in the log.

Thanks
