You can't mix them in the same array, but the controller can support sas and sata arrays at the same time. No, you wouldn't be able to install OMSA on the VM, as it would only see what you have the VM configured for in resources.

Here is the ESXi 5.0 OMSA instructions:

Installing OpenManage Server Administrator on ESXi 5.0

Installing Dell OEM ESXi 5

Overall instructions:
1. Install Offline VIB Bundle
2. Install OpenManage (OMSA) Web Services on a Windows machine.

Installing Offline VIB Bundle

1. Check to make sure ESXi is 5.0 If it is not, update it to the most current.
2. Log onto a Windows machine on the same network.
3. Type in the IP of the ESXi server in a Internet Explorer window. That should bring up the below screen:

4. Download the VI Remote CLI tool, or Vsphere. Those tools can be downloaded right there from the web page that comes up.
5. Download the Dell OpenManage Offline Bundle and VIB for ESXi 5
http://en.community.dell.com/dell-groups/dtcmedia/m/mediagallery/19928975/download.aspx
6. Install the offline VIB bundle
1. Copy the OMSA 6.5 VIB to the ESXi host (/var/log/vmware or /vmfs/volumes/<datastore>)

2. Run the following command from the vSphere CLI prompt:
esxcli.exe --server <server> software vib install -d <remote path to VIB>

Example:
C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware vSphere CLI\bin>esxcli.exe --server 10.180.57.109 software vib install -d /var/log/vmwar/Dell_OpenManage_ESXi_OM650-offline_bundle-467660.zip

Enter username: root
Enter password:
Installation Result
Message: The update completed successfully, but the system needs to be rebooted for the changes to be effective.
Reboot Required: true
VIBs Installed: Dell_bootbank_OpenManage_6.5-0000
VIBs Removed:
VIBs Skipped:

3. Reboot, Check Software > Advanced Settings for UserVars.CIMvmw_OpenManageProviderEnabled should already be set to 1

Verify OMSA VIB on ESXi 5
esxcli.exe --server <server> software vib list

Example:
C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware vSphere CLI\bin>esxcli.exe --server 10.180.57.109 software vib list
Enter username: root
Enter password:

Name Version Vendor Acceptance Level Install Date
---------------------- ---------------------------------- ------ ---------------- ------------
Dell-Configuration-VIB 5.0-0 Dell PartnerSupported 2011-10-05
Dell-License-VIB 5.0-0 Dell PartnerSupported 2011-10-05
OpenManage 6.5-0000 Dell VMwareAccepted 2011-10-05

If ever needed.
Remove OMSA VIB on ESXi 5
esxcli.exe --server <server> software vib remove --vibname=<vib name>

Example:
C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware vSphere CLI\bin>esxcli.exe --server 10.180.57.109 software vib remove --vibname=OpenManage

Installing OpenManage Managed Node ver. 6.5 on a Windows Machine

1. Download OpenManage Server Administrator Managed Node version 6.5 from Dell's support site (not the OpenManage Server Administrator Web Services under the ESXi downloads)
ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/sysman/OM-SrvAdmin-Dell-Web-WIN-6.5.0-2247_A01.10.exe
2. On a separate windows machine install OpenManage Server Administrator Managed Node and choose 'Custom' install.
3. When choosing features make sure Server Administrator Web Server is selected (If installing on a desktop it could be the only option).

4. Once the install is complete, double-click on the server administrator icon.

5. On the login page Enter the ESXi server ip address, use root for the user, and root password. Make sure to check the option to ignore certificate warnings.

6. Done! You should be able to access the OpenManage Managed Node Web Interface.

Common Issues
Problem:
When attempting to use vihostupdate to install the OMSA VIBs you get the following error:
"Unable to create, write or read a file as expected.I/O Error (28) on file : [Errno 28] No space left on device"
Solution:
Configure a scratch directory on a VMFS volume as detail here:
http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/microsite.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1012640&sliceId=1&docTypeID=DT_KB_1_1

Problem:
When attempting to logon via the OpenManage Web server you get the following error:
LOGIN FAILED....INTERNAL ERROR
Possible Solutions (This can be caused by a number of things)
1. Make sure you're using the OpenManage Webserver from the OMSA 6.5 Managed Node install.
2. Make sure CIMOEMProvidersEnabled is set to 1 and the Management Agents are restarted afterwards.
3. Make sure root has a password
