Re: PE2950 BIOS upgrade without floppy drive

At this point, you have 3 options. #1 is to try the linux based update packages from within Xen, they should work properly. #2 is to use Repository Manager to create a bootable deployment media that you would boot the system to, and the it would automatically update the system to the latest versions of firmwares. The other choice is more complicated and requires the use of the Systems Management Tools and Documentation disc that comes with most servers, and a Server Update Utility 7.x from the support site. I would recommend the RM disc as it is much easier and less downloading.

Rm can be downloaded from this link: www.dell.com/.../DriverDetails

The 2nd video at this site details how to create the bootable iso en.community.dell.com/.../1767.dell-repository-manager.aspx

Yep, the mezzanine card/daughter card gives an extra 2x gbe ports. If this is fitted then install the other 2 switches in bay 3&4.

The idea of the switches is to replace the pass thru modules, cut down the quantity of ethernet cables required.

If your server has this riser:

DXX7K Riser 1- X16 Slot (Used in 2P Config).

Then it will throw the error, since its looking for the 2nd CPU. .  Will your server go past the error and run?

It is strange. As soon as I cleaned the log through iDRAC7 and rebooted server, the mistake was gone.

I have the same issue but I have 3 250Gb drives and a raid 5.  Can someone tell me if I can replace the old drives with 3 new 1Tb drives? I figured going with 1Tb drives was more likely compatible and less expensive.  Right now I'm getting a lot of "that should work" and "I'm not sure"...from the stores (Best buy and Fryes).  I don't want to buy them and then find out it won't work.

ok, I have one of those adapters in hand, what I dont have is a a triplite kvm. I have  dell 2161DS, and I will give that a shot to see how it behaves.

ok, so here is what I have, Avocent PS/2 sip, connected to the Triplite PS2 to usb adapter, which then connects to the  USB port on the R210ii. The video goes straight from the system to the Avocent sip's video cable.

The Avocent sip connects to the dell 2161DS KVM unit via a network cable.

I am currently installing Windows 2008R2 Sp1 on the R210ii and the mouse and keyboard are behaving properly.

The model of the triplite ps2 to usb dongle is B015-000

Poweredge 1800,  windows server 2003, Dell Cerc Sata 1.5/6ch Raid Controller, LSI Logic 1020/1030 Ultra 320 SCSI adapter.  Under the drives it says Dell Array SCSI Disk Device.  I've looked at the drives and I believe they were WD 250Gb SATA drives.  So I'm not sure if this is being ran as SCSI or Sata...If that's what you're wondering.  I figured I would go after WD black SATA 1Tb drives, but again I'm not sure if that's going to work.  If you need more information, let me know, but I might have to dig up my paperwork for this server.

did some checking on mine, heres the part number for my cable U219-000-R, this is a tripplite part number.

the setup is basically what i have here, minus the difference in the kvm equipment

tripplite kvm with tripplite cables going to servers. only on this dell server i have the tripplite adapter on the end of the cable going to the dell server.

when i first installed this cable it did the found new hardware, installing new hardware, hardware ready to use. when i go to move the mouse cursor a search window comes up. almost like a keyboard shortcut was done instead of moving the mouse. so i did a restart on the server and was able to use the keyboard. but as soon as i got to the desktop and moved the mouse it did the same thing. even put this on a 2k3R2 box and i got the same thing. the 2k3r2 is 32bit. but yet it works on 7Pro 32bit.

hi all

sorry, but i haven't had this issue before - my team mate has given me his r720 to reimage with ESXi5.1 - no worries, but when i log into the iDRAC7 and go to launch virtual console, the connection fails. I can see the little window. the server is up and running.

i tried it on another PC in case it was mine after wiping all my local internet history etc.

the same problem is there.

is this firmware? and something is wrong? i don't know what state this server was in before i was given it...i am new and grown like a mushroom :)

thanks in advance

Hi,

Which plugin are you using? You can check this from "Server -> Console" page. Check Plugin Type. If it is "Native" you need to make sure to configure Internet Explorer to allow Activex Plugin installation. (Add iDRAC IP/Hostname to Trusted Sites and Security level as Medium). If you are using Java plugin make sure JRE 6 or above is installed on the client. More information available on iDRAC7 user Guide (Link mentioned below). Refer section "Configuring Web Browsers to Use Virtual Console"

Hi all!

It´s my very first time in this forum, and a newbie with this kind of servers...

I Have various Dell PowerEdge 2850 with a extra LSI Logic pcbx 518-B1 SCSI card and I have also an HP MSA 500 G2 box with 14 Hd.

I´m triying to recreate a RAID in the MSA 500 but I can´t see any HD  when I entered in the POST RAID menus (Ctrl + M or Ctrl + A)

I trying also throuh OMSA software without any success.

The Dell server Bios, and SCSI Card Bios are recently updated and during the Post it seems that the LSI detect in two channels the MSA500 hardware.

May be it´s a compatibility issue?

can any body give me any kind of help to go around?

Many thanks, and excuse my english.
