Hello,

I have a qestion about the supported CPUś for the Dell power edge R610.

In the documentation of dell I didn't found it in the CPU list but it says also that is supports E55 and E56 series.

Does The dell power edge R610 support the Xeon E5645?

PowerEdge R730 and CentOS 7.4

I have a new, out of the box R730 and  I'm attempting to install CentOS7.4.

I have attempted to boot PXE and as soon as it begins to execute my kickstart file, it locks up with a gray screen.

I attempted to boot from the cd, once it begins to load ISOLINUX, it locks up with a gray screen.

I attempted to use the Lifecycle Controller. Setup the RAID, (Used both BIOS and UEFI w/no secure boot)... It reboots from CD to first menu asking to Install CentOS, press enter. System displays the Penguins across the top and locks up.

How in the world do you install CentOS on the R730???

Cannot update BIOS for Dell PowerEdge R710

I have an EMC Avamar ADS Gen3 3.3TB, internally a Dell PowerEdge R710.

I am attempting to update the BIOS firmware from version 6.0.7 to 6.4.0, but I have encountered several issues.

My management OS is OpenSuSE Leap 42.3. Running

wget -q -O - linux.dell.com/.../bootstrap.cgi | bash
zypper install dell-system-update

succeeded. My first problem is that srvadmin-all is missing from that repository and Zypper can't find it.

I then ran dsu. It succeeded to upgrade all of the firmware in my server's inventory except the BIOS itself. When the upgrade failed, it showed an error message:

Unable to get the System Generation.

I then tried to produce a bootable ISO from dsu. The ISO was indeed saved; I wrote it out to a USB disk using dd; but then when I attempt to boot from the USB disk the BIOS says that no operating system is found, regardless of whether I attempt hard disk emulation or floppy emulation.

Are there any workarounds I can use to get the BIOS updated? And how can I install srvadmin-all?

Thank you.

Dell server configuration web page not working properly

Recently the web page where we configure and customize Dell PowerEdge servers is not working properly, it takes forever to render any change in selections, and often time after spending too much time trying to finish a configuration it bombs at the end and all is lost.

And yes this happen with all browsers.

Talking with our reps, they acknowledge the issue but nobody at Dell seem to care.

Any more info or thoughts on this?

Thank you

T430 vs T330

I'm about to purchase a small server to host Quickbooks and SQL express running Win2012r2 Essentials for a custom POS application in a small business office.  All things being equal (cpu/memory/raid/disk/etc) - any reason to go with the T330 over the T430?  Actually the CPU is different, E3-1220 (T330) vs E5-2603 (T430). Price wise they're about the same.  Want to make sure I'm not missing any advantages with the T330 by going with the T430.  Thanks

Cable for Full sized PCI-E raid controller on R720

Hi,

I need to add a full sized PCI-E H710P controller to a poweredge R720 that is currently cabled to use a monolithic)mini) controller. I believe all I need to know is the part number for the cable that goes from the backplane directly to the raid controller. This is the 8x3.5" R720 (NON-XD) chassis. The only information I can find in manuals is related to using the monolithic/onboard RAID. How do you cable a regular PCI E SAS card to the backplane?

POWER EDGE 2900

Good afternoon , could you support us in the following issue?

We have PE2900 , it was woking fine some months ago   then  it was sent to us by airplane  , after receiving it  we turned  it on  and we could see the fans were on and LCD turn it on also , we did not have any signal from keyboard , the keyboard does not turn on the leds and it did not work then  we try with another keyboard and  the same result , both of them did not work . Both of them works  properly when they are used in another computer . Also we did the test using all the usb port ( 5 usb ports )

Also we did not see any information from monitor  eventhough the monitor is working properly  when we use in another computer. The monitor led show green at the begining then change to amber , also nothing is showed in monitor.

We have two hard drivers and RAID CARD , Raid card showes   blinking green  led but the hard drives when we boot  we did not see any light blink in this process I mean at the begining of the  boot neither in the booting process.

Also the LCD showes the following message E1410 , CPU1 or CPU2, also we open the computer and it looks fine , also we  take the NIC out , disconnect and connect the cables from RAID to the proper bay connector but the same result ,

Akso we tred  to boot from a booteable Acronis CD   ( CD drive works properly ) but the same result

The DIMMs look fine  but we did not take them out from their slots

Internally the Server looks fine ,

Do you think it could be good idea to take ( NIC , Raid Card , all DIMMs ) out and to try to boot to see if something else happens or

Do you have any additional ideas to try to see if we could fix it , or could be it a motherboard problem or any hit  during the travel in shipping which it could harm the server

Thanks for your support

Ricardo

T610 reboot hangs on iDRAC error

I have a T610 which has recently started hanging on reboot with the following error:

iDrac6 Communication Failuree

Alert!  iDrac6 Error...  Rebooting

After a pause it automatically reboots, and the second time hangs with the message:

Alert! iDRAC6 not responding. Power required may exceed PSU wattage.

Alert! Continuing system boot accepts risk that system may power down without warning.

Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the system setup program.

I have never made use of the iDRAC, or even configured it for use, and I could live without it if I could just get the server to boot without it. I went into the system setup but couldn't find anything about disabling the iDRAC, is it possible?

This server only has one power supply, is there a way to test it to see if it has gone bad, given the indication "power required may exceed PSU wattage." It has run OK for several years on that power supply, but now that I think about it, this started right after there was an issue with the power lines coming into the building, which may have damaged the power supply.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Dave

Also, the system fans are running at full speed, (very loud) and reading some of the other posts on here about iDRAC issues, I understand the iDRAC also controls the fans?

Intel X550-T2 in PowerEdge R710

Hi! Does anyone know if a R710 can handle an Intel X550-T2 running at 10GB? We recently installed one in an R710 and can only get 1GB connection speeds out of it. Is anyone aware of any technincal limitations that might be preventing me from achieving 10GB?

X550 NICs performance question.

I have the task of setting up storage spaces direct on 4x R740xd servers with the Dual x550/i350 NICs. Is there any settings for the x550 NICs that can be set to increase performance? The x550s are Teamed in each node. The i350s are disabled. Hyper-V is installed, but we plan to set these up for large capacity storage/file use.

H730P mono not detected by R630 after new install.

Hello, i have bought a H730P  Mini Mono PERC card on ebay for my DELL R630 server, after installing it on the controller slot and secured it with the special cable (also bought on ebay) , the card is not detected anywhere, not in BIOS, not on iDRAC, not on Lifecycle controller inventory.... thinking that the card could be damaged , i returned it and bought anotherone new. Same problem, i have tried disabling the onboard SATA S130 Controller , but this makes no difference. Is there any trick to make a new server detect H730P Monolythic ?

Also tried putting the single card with no cable attached to the backplane, (only putting the 2 screws), cleaned contacts . Same problem.

googled around and no luck on a similar case... Any ideas ? Thanks

Dell PowerEdge R430 - change TPM 2.0 to 1.2

Hi all,

is there any chance to change newer TPM 2.0 chip to older one (TPM 1.2) in this server? We have incorrectly selected a new version of TPM (2.0) that is not supported by security tools such as TrustedGRUB2, tpm-tools and tpm-luks.

Many thanks for the replies!

Dell T 110 II GPU upgrade from RX550 to RX 560, can't boot; only blank screen on startup

$

Dear all;

I have read many posts here helping others about putting a GPU on a Dell T 110 II server. I was successfully using and RX 550 and I found a deal and wanted to upgrade to RX 560.I regret that decision since I can't boot my computer anymore. I'm still able to boot to Windows 10 without the card plugged into PCIe port.

The only difference with this card and previous RX 550 is that this one needs a 6 pin power connecter which I supply using two SATA power plugs. Card is not power hungry so I imagine PSU is not the issue.

Unfortunately I have returned the RX 550 and now it's out of stock and I can't buy anymore of it and therefore I need to make this RX 560 work somehow. What kind of troubleshooting steps should I follow?

Through my research I came across to some suggestion indicating that switching to BIOS instead of UEFI might help but when I switch my server to BIOS instead of UEFI it just doesn't even boot to Windows even without the card plugged in. Some say I should disable integrated graphics from BIOS but I can't find any option to do so.

Any help would be appreciated.

T410 with H700 - Degraded Array with Predictive Failure Disk

Hi:

I have a PowerEdge T410 server with an PERC H700 controller.  The cfg. is:
2x2TB disks - RAID 1
4x300GB disks - RAID 5
No Hot Spare

One of the 2TB disks failed and thus RAID 1 array is degraded.  I just hot swap the replacement into the same slot and it will automatically start the rebuild, correct?  Or, do I execute the "Replace Member Disk.." command in OpenManage?  If I should execute the command, do I hot swap the disk then execute, or execute first then hot swap?

Thank you!

Dell 13th Gen Hardware and Perc 730 - Alerts During LearnCycle

$

We are now running ~30 PowerEdge R[347]30s and 8 FX2s chassis with 16 FC630 sleds.

We've currently got all of the warning and critical alerts enabled and during a RAID controller cache battery learn cycle, we will receive alerts for:

BAT0015: The PERC1 battery is low
BAT1008: Write policy on Integrated RAID Controller 1 was changed to Write Through.

If the affected server is an FC630, we also get the alerts from the FX2s chassis and the other 3 sleds in the server - it's incredibly noisy in terms of email alerts received in the wee small hours.

We are debating turning off the warnings - but in an ideal world suppressing these warnings during the learn cycle would be the ideal option.

How do you people have the alerts configured on 13th gen hardware?
