PowerEdge R230 stuck on BIOS
Missing embedded diags
I have a R320 which has started blinking the Health Indicator light recently. Assumed it was a fan so pulled the cover and all the fans are working. Brought up the box and tried to go into the embedded diagnostics and it appears they are missing. Get the message "Diagnostics not available". Anybody got any suggestions on how to add embedded diagnostics to a machine? Or any idea how to diagnose the problem without the diags?
It's a 5 year old machine yes. Probably should be replaced. But around here they are not broken in until they are 10 years old.
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

R710 with single module memory configuration
hey,
I'm about to do a memory upgrade on R710 Servers running 2 Intel E5540@2.53Ghz CPUs.
There came up 2 questions:
1) Is it possible to run the systems with a single 16GB Module per CPU? so only installed one module in A1 Ch1 and B1 Ch1 each! is this a "optimized" mode?
2) What about 1600Mhz modules? are they compatible (example Kingston KTD-PE316S/8G )? and also 1600Mhz Low voltage modules (example Kingston KTD-PE316LV/16G ) and also Dell offers these modules as upgrades (example Manufacturer Part# SNPRKR5JC/8G Dell Part# A7134886 )
thanks for your thoughts

Windows 10 Pro on R410
Hi there,
I have a R410 and would like to run Windows 10 on it.
i already have it installed but I’m missing some drivers.
As the default windows graphic driver is not running smoothly and the hard drives in slot 2,3,4 are not detected.
Did someone already did this and is it possible to run it smoothly ?
Dell server update utility?
Is there one that exists? Something like Dell Command Update but for servers that will search for drivers/firmware/BIOS and update them in the correct order?
Poweredge T620 no video signal
Dear forum support,
I recently ran into a problem at the organization I started working recently. I ran into a situation (which is a somewhat long story and complicated), but basically I created a Windows Server R2 image into a bootable USB flash drive, and I did the usual to enable booting up from USB device, however when I was in the Bios settings, I lost video signal. I thought maybe it was the monitor dying on me, or I accidentally moved the cable.
I have tried using several VGA cables and monitors and it does detect analog input but the monitors always go back to sleep and there's no signal (it does however say to turn computer on - but the server is already on).
Everything else is working fine, the keyboard lights are all light up, caps lock, num lock, they all work and light up when pressed.
The mouse laser's lights up, the front small LCD panel is blue, as well as the Identification button on the back.
I am so sorry if this is a noob question, but I really hope the VGA adapter did not die :(
Currently my organization doesn't have access to the server because the only enabled boot option right now is through USB, but I can't see anything.
I am thinking there is a quick way to solve this, but I am just missing something?
Additionally, would the LCD panel on the front tell you if the VGA adapter isn't working correctly? I figured it should since it can tell you if the front cover chasis is in place or not.
Thanks in advance!
VRTX Power Supplies - Chinese Customs Problem
Hello,
we have a big problem - we try to get a VRTX system to our subsidiary in China.
Now the Chinese Customs want some additional documents ...
First they wanted a CCC Certificate - but this is obsolet because our VRTX has four 1600W power supplies. We provided a Document from Dell, that the VRTX is not under the CCC ...
Now the customs officer want an other document - they said:
"However the guarantee from Dell can not be accepted by local government.
Only the documents which include their official specific data (especially the rated power), and Outgoing Quality Checking report with testing information (here, also meaning rated power ), can be help on this case.
The said data should be for VRTX System. The components information like power supply have no persuasion as the feedback from Bureau."
Can someone here help?
Best regards from Germany

R620 stuck "configuring memory" after bios update 1.3.x to 2.5.4
I have an R620 that is stuck at "configuring memory" after updating bios to 2.5.4, previous version was 1.3.x. System boots if I remove CPU2. Or works with boths CPUs if I roll back to old bios, I can't find any known bugs.
Anyone experience this before?

PowerEdge T20 Won't Boot USB Stick From Select USB Ports
This is a bizarre one.
I book into Linux from a USB flash drive. This USB stick was plugged into the top front USB port and booted (legacy mode) fine from that. Then one day the BIOS would report there was no bootable media available.
So I moved the USB stick to the back far right port (viewing from behind). It booted fine. Then one day the BIOS would report there was no bootable media available. So I tried moving it to the port I'd been using before (front top) but still wouldn't boot.
So I moved the USB stick to the back far left port (viewing from behind). It booted fine.
I'm scared the BIOS is gradually freezing out USB ports I can boot from. I'm worried that soon I'll run out of USB ports I can boot from.
Anybody else had this problem? What could it possibly be?
Dell PowerEdge R410
Hello and to whom it may concern.
Issue: When rebooting or starting Dell R410 server and it goes through it's booting process. The server does not go directly into the operating system(CentOS 7x). Before going into the os. I get message:
No PXE-available capable device
Strick F1 to retry reboot F2 for system setup
When I press F1, There is no issue booting into the operating system.
How can I stop if possible that when I reboot the server it does not stop at the message?
Thanks in advance.
Help: New Server Configuration
Hi.
I was tasked to purchase a new server for the new Oracle ERP (customized, not from Oracle itself) for a company. ERP users will be less than 50 users.
I am currently looking at R730 with the following configurations in mind.
1x Intel Xeon E5-2650 v4
8x 16GB 2400MT/s RDIMM
8x 300GB 15K 12GB/s SAS Drives
This would be my first implementation of a server so I honestly don't know it this config is enough for an Oracle database with less than 50 concurrent users. Or maybe it is even an overkill.
Also, I don't know what to do with the drives, should I get 8x300GB and run in RAID 10? What RAID and size is applicable for an ERP system(Oracle database)?
This are the client's requirements.
1. Hyper-V
2. 2 VM - 1 ERP, 1 Domain Controller
That's it. That's the info they gave me.
So my questions again are.
1. Does my initial config OK for an ERP system?
2. What RAID configuration and size of disk should I get? Client said that from their current system data size is 2-3GB/year.
T620 CPU Heat Sink
I'm interested in know if the T620 CPU heat sink pn:056JY6 is similar to the T420 heat sink pn: 5JXH7. In other words can I use 5JXH7 in a T620?
PowerConnect 2824 configuration access issues
I have a Dell PC2824 managed switch.
When first powered up, it runs in unmanaged mode, though the fan and
manage mode lights blink as if it's trying to configure itself.

Downloading code using XMODEM.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----
The CLI screen stays like this for about five minutes, until the download
routine times out, then the switch does a warm boot and repeats the
process.
Unlike other managed switches I have, the POST does not complete. Because
of this, the mode switch will not allow me to change between unmanaged
and managed mode - so it would be impossible to access the Web interface.
Similarly, becuase the POST routine does not complete, I cannot issue CLI
commands (I never get the console> prompt.
There is the prom option within 2 seconds of start-up. This also offers a
download software option.
The prompt text above seems to indicate that the switch FW is bad and
needs reloading.
I have set up a Solarwinds TFTP server on the PC which I am running
Hyperterminal or PuTTY on. Tghis points to a TFTP root folder which does
contain the two latest firmware files -
powerconnect_28xx_boot-10013.rfb
and
powerconnect_28xx-10045.ros
With the TFTP server running, I would expect the PC2824 to collect the
firmware and download/install it - but nothing seems to be happening.
If I try to "push" the FW over TFTP from Hyperterminal, it sees the files
and attempts to upload to the switch, but after 10 attempts which are
reported as "Received a retry request" it times out.
This whole scenario is not covered by ther PC2824 documentation or CLI
commands - all of which assume that either CLI or Web configuration is
working normally.
There are no options in the PC2824 POST menu that allow me to tell the
switch from where it should download via TFTP the config files.
Neither does the documentation explain which of the two files are for
which purpose or in which order they should be reloaded.
Therefore I seem to be stuck in a loop in which I cannot talk to the
switch to enable me to interrogate it to see what config files may already
exist, or to reinstall and re set the switch.
Also, the reset password option under POST boot options as shown in the
CLI documentation is missing from my switch menu.
The manual also refers to a special Dell set up wizard routine for the
first time the switch is configured, but I don't know how to invoke this
on a switch that presumably has already been configured.
Any suggestions as to how to give this switch a first-birthday and get it
working in managed mode again? None of the Dell documentation instructions are usable because there is no CLI prompt, no managed mode state (and thus no Web interface) and no hardware reset button.
I've been working on this for two days withourt success, so I'd appreciate any pointers that anyone may be able to offer...
Best regards,
Adrian Redmond

DRAC v1.54 vs. v1.97
I have two R710 servers with DRAC6 Enterprise. The difference between the two are the version of Firmware each is running. The problem I'm encountering is the DRAC running v1.54 allows a successful Virtual Console to establish. When I attempt to run a Virtual Console on the R710 running v1.97, it fails with a Connection Failure error message in java.
I have explored all the exception listings in Java, firewalls, etc and nothing else appears to be blocking the R710 with v1.97 from establishing the VirtConsole, but time and time again it fails and the DRAC running v1.54 works.
Does anybody know what the differences are with v1.54 and the newer DRAC firmware versions? And is it possible to get an old copy of v1.54? I tried looking on the Dell Support site and it only has versions back to v1.85 available.
