Hello,
I am trying to fix the noise level generated by my T310.
Installing Dell iDRAC6 V2.90 reduces the noise to very acceptable levels.
(ESM_FIRMWARE_9GJYW_WIN32_2.90_A00)
However, if I reboot my T310, the fan starts making noise again.
Based on some Google results, I assume that I need to upgrade the BMC firmware as well to maintain the right noise level.
I am trying to upgrade the BMC Firmware for many days now.
I tried different approaches, all of them fail:
My system:
Windows 2008 server R2, clean install. 6GB / SAS 15K
IDRAC 6 V 2.90 is running properly, I can login via a remote PC etc.
I successfully upgraded to BIOS 1.12.
BIOS power management: Active Power Controller (tried others)
Different Upgrades of BMC fail:
1) executing BMC_FRMW_WIN_R295871.EXE from within windows Update package Rev V1.70 A00:
BMC_FRMW_WIN_R295871 => Error: The update package is not compatible with your system configuration.
The WMI service was enabled, but whiter IMPI was enabled, I cannot say, I am unable to verify this.
2) executing PET310BmcA00_selfexe_.exe from a DOS environment
I made a bootable DOS HD (40GB dos 6.22), and copied the files according to the readme file included in the extracting version.
Boot of DOS on my system succeeds.
C:>BMCFWUD -i=C:\FIRMIMG.D6 (according to the readme, .cfg and .d6 are in root directory.)
IDrac6 Firmware upgrade utility version 1.4.02.118
No valid device was found, Check to ensure system and flash image are valid.
Questions:
Why do both paths fail?
Are there other prerequisites that I need to realize before the upgrade can be successful ?
I would really appreciate some help to realize the upgrade. My preference goes to the DOS path because it does not rely on other services that also can fail.
Best Regards,
John.
