Issues Upgrading PE1950 with 2 Intel Xeon 5355

Hello Support Community, I want to search your help regarding the upgrading of my second PE1950 that I use with ESXi employing 2 Intel Xeon 5355, because, even I  updated today the BIOS to 2.7.0 and  BMC to v.2.37, A14, the Server didnt show any video of the booting process.

The processors are OK because I tested them in my first PE1950  without problems.

I followed the guide  http://downloads.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_poweredge/poweredge-1950_setup%20guide2_en-us.pdf and the thread: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/servers/f/956/t/18672101 . In the last one the only thing that I missed was the PERC upgrade , ¿Could It be this item the cause that the issue persists?

Thank you and Best Regards.

Poweredge 1950 - Single bit warning error rate exceeded

Hi,

Over the past few days, three of our PE1950's in two separate data centers have reported:

Possible memory module event cause:Single bit warning error rate exceeded,Single bit failure error rate exceeded

We do have hundreds of these servers, but I just think it is strange a bit of a strange coincidence for three of them to have the same issue within days of each other.

In each case it is a 4gb module which has been reported as having the issue. In one of the servers that had the issue, DIMM 8 was reported as having the problem, so I swapped DIMM's 7&8 with a pair of known working 2GB DIMM's (not from the same server) - I didn't have any spare 4gb DIMM's to hand and the issue appears to have moved to DIMM 4

All of the servers are on BIOS 2.7.0, two of the affected servers are G2 and the other is G3.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be causing this strange coincidence and the behavior I've noticed while troubleshooting?

Thanks

James

PE 840 graphic card problem

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to run a Nvidia GeForce GT 720 graphic card, it stucks after the POST.
I know there's no option to disable the primary video in BIOS, i've read all the discussions about this issue, but i noticed threads are old.
Is there a solution to run my new graphic card? What about phisically removing the embedded one?

Thank you,
Michele.

I have a c6100 node in the 4th slot that will not power on.  I tried swapping node 4th slot with slot 3, the issue followed the node.  The most recent change was adding a 10G card I since removed it to see if that was an issue but host still not powering on.

iDRAC7 racadm command to delete indexed user

iDRAC7 racadm command to delete indexed user?

Background: R720 utilizing the iDRAC7, 1.57.57 firmware

Been trying to find a way to delete a user account from the DRAC interface.  You can add a new user quite easily, but there doesn't seem to be an option to delete a user.

Have searched the web and found the following RACADM command line entry multiple times, but it does not seem to work with iDRAC7...

Syntax:  racadm config -g <groupName> -o <objectName> -i <index 1-16> ""

but when I've attempted to use this command with the NULL entry [""], it isn't accepted

   PS> racadm config -g cfgUserAdmin -o cfgUserAdminUserName -i 3 ""
ERROR: Invalid syntax. An object value must be specified.

Was this ability removed from iDRAC7?  Is there a way to delete a user from iDRAC7?

Hi

I am seeing the following error when my server(PowerEdge R820) tries to boot up. There were 2 Dell Hard drives SSD in the servers.

With harddrive-1 inserted in SLOT 0 we could like

1 virtual drives is available

1 virtual drives is offline.

But after some time it shows like:

No boot device available
Current mode set to bios
Please ensure compatible bootable media
use the system setup program to change the boot mode as needed
strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for system setup, F11 for bios boot manager

With the another harddrive-2 inserted in slot0, it doesn't even recognize as a disk present. it shows like :

0 virtual drives is available

0 virtual drives is offline.

Could someone please help here. A quick response would be much appreciated.

Hello All.

I want to upgrade RAM on my DELL T410 Server but  I have the following error when I try to insert a 8GB RDIMM module:

"MEMBIST failure – The following DIMM has been disabled by Bios: DIMM B2"

I know the memory module is ok, if I try it on another slot, it work just fine.

Also if I insert the original 2GB module in slot B2, I have no problem at all.

I want to install 48GB of RAM (8GB x 6 Modules) I know the right configuration should be A1,A2,A3 and B1,B2,B3

I have try mixing several configurations with the four slots but if I insert the 8GB module It always give me the MEMBIST error, so I'm stuck only with 8GB per procesor (16GB total).

Can somebody help me?

My meroy module is:

PE SC440 Will not POST

My PowerEdge SC440 would not boot the other day. I unplugged the power cord and pressed the power button to clear any possible memory errors. After reconnecting the power and pressing the power button, the computer POSTed and displayed the 2 and 3 error lites indicating a HDD failure. I then pressed and held the power button to turn off the computer. I then troubleshot the drives. When I next turned on the computer, it would not POST, the power button lite was steady amber and all fans were running full blast. I could not turn off the server using the power button and had to unplug the power supply in order to turn off the computer. I opened the access panel, reseated all HHD cables, power supply cables, RAM modules, etc., plugged the power supply power cable in and the system immediate started running with the same symptoms as before. I was able to determine that the lite at 2A2 on the motherboard was lit steady amber. I have no idea what that means. Anyone have any ideas about what is wrong and how to solve it?

Hello,

i'm trying to update an old R610 server using a ISO image made with Dell Repository Manager.
The firmware and bios are updated now but i can't update iDRAC firmware.

I also tried to upgrade iDRAC firmware with racadm (ssh). With this procedure I have the following error :

/admin1-> racadm fwupdate -g -u -a 10.51.20.62
Preparing for firmware update. Please wait...tftp: write error: No space left on device
Firmware update is not currently in progress

Do you have an idea to solve this ?

Thanks!

Poweredge T110II

I purchased a Poweredge T110II server last week for a new office.  It was delivered on Friday and I had set aside today to connect it.  However, I plugged it in, powered it up and I"m getting a Media test failure, check cable and no current boot device available.  Does anyone know why I'm getting this?  Did I set something up incorrect or is there a problem with my hardware?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

r410 ssd and caddy

We are replacing a failed R410 with a R430.

Thing is we would like to use the dell SSD disks from the R410 in the r430,

We have checked compatibility and it seems the H730P is okay  with the ssd drives (the drives are dell but purchased last year)

What we can't get an answer to is if we need new caddies.

PE 2900 series III PCIe Training error, RE-FLOW candidate???

last week my 2900 series III wouldn’t boot and gave me a fail safe error.  after disassembling it and re assembling it booted and operated fine.  Sometime during the week it crashed again, now it is failing POST and I am getting PCIe Training Error: NIC 2.  I cant even access BIOS, the system halts.  Before ordering a new motherboard I would like to try re-flowing this board at home.  I have successfully done this with several laptop boards.  However, the only time I tried it with a desktop board a capacitor exploded in my oven.  I have access to a laser temp gage and a heat gun as an alternative.  What IC should I be targeting with the heat gun?  Would I be better off trying to re-flow the entire board in the oven?  Much thanks!

RAM speeds impact on website/server

Hi and greets from Finland!

I'm suppose to accuire new hardware, and I'm not sure what's the most efficient way to go.

I have two options at hand: the R900 or R710/R910 Poweredge.

I'm just wondering, how much does RAM speed (not the amount but speed) affect a server that should host a website? The website/s is/are quite heavy and does at least put a toll on the viewers side of performance, but since the R900 supports only 667Mhz RAM, is it really worth to at least double the budget and go for R710/910 that supports 1333Mhz RAM?

Does the RAM speed affect a server that much?

Overall the R900 would have a total of four 2,94Ghz quad-cores and around 100 gigs of RAM, 15k HDD's

The R710/R910 would have about a third less CPU performance and around 50 gigs of RAM, thou it would be 1333Mhz.

What do you folks think?

Rails do not fit in APC Netshelter AR1100a

I recently purchased an APC Netshelter AR1100a rack. I went to go throw my poweredge 2950 versa rails into the rack when I realized they do not fit. The depth of the rack is fine, its the flanges. They do not have enough clearance to fit the rails in. Does anyone know of alternative rails to fit in this rack?
